David Miller began in the legal field as a paralegal after college, gaining his first insight into legal work at Metmor Financial.
In 1997, he moved to Topeka and joined the Kansas State Appellate Defender Office as a paralegal, putting his love of research and writing to work. He earned a degree in History and Political Science from Washburn University in 2000.
He later joined Ney and Adams as a paralegal and worked on cases involving the Federal Death Penalty, deepening his understanding of capital defense and strengthening his passion for justice.
He enrolled in law school in 2012 at the University of Missouri–Kansas City. There, he worked on the UMKC Law Review, participated in the Death Penalty Representation Clinic, and interned at the American Civil Liberties Union.
While working with the Midwest Innocence Project, he had the privilege of representing and helping to exonerate an innocent man before the Missouri Court of Appeals—one of the most meaningful experiences of his time in law school and his life.
He earned his J.D. from the University of Missouri–Kansas City in 2015. He was admitted to practice in Kansas in 2016 and North Dakota in 2017.
